Victoria Torres Pecis is the fifth-generation custodian of her family's bodega in Fuencaliente, on the volcanic island of La Palma, farming ungrafted old vines on black picon soil with a minimalist, low-sulfur hand. This is her Negramoll, the Canary red grape (the same family as Tinta Negra of Madeira), grown on dry volcanic soils. In her hands it stays light, fresh and savory rather than heavy, all crunchy red fruit and volcanic earth. The 2023 is energetic and food-friendly, and like everything she makes, produced in tiny quantities. Serve it with a slight chill to show off its lift.

"The only red in 2023 is the 2023 Negramoll, a wine that was not produced since 2020. It's a grape that is very sensitive to the high temperatures and has difficulties sprouting and was not produced as a single-harvest wine for a few years. The grape needs higher altitudes, as it doesn't work anymore in the traditional altitude at lower temperatures, up to 500 meters. The grape is being replaced, and few people are planting it, even higher up. The wine has a cloudy ruby color and a fantastic and characterful nose that is reminiscent of some reds from Jura, with notes of hibiscus, rose hip and an earthy touch. It doesn't feel like a wine from a very warm year, it comes in at 13.5% alcohol but feels fresh and balanced, with very fine and elegant tannins. 2,436 bottles produced. It was bottled in the summer of 2024." —Luis Gutiérrez
