Small family estate run by the Trequattrini family. 100% Sangiovese from 10 to 30 year old vines within Sant’Angelo in Colle, from vineyards planted at 350-430 meters of elevation. "Voliero" means "aviary" in Italian. Rosso di Montalcino offers an earlier-drinking expression of their Sangiovese—released younger than Brunello but from the same estate vineyards.

Antonio Galloni

91 points

"The 2023 Rosso di Montalcino wafts up with a citrus-laced bouquet of wild berries, sage and sweet smoke. It is juicy and round, with lifted red and blueberry fruits swirling across a zesty acidity stream. The 2023 leaves a mineral tinge and hints of sour cherry, finishing remarkably fresh. This approachable and graceful vintage of Voliero Rosso won't require much time to find its ideal drinking window, yet it is overgiving in every possible way." —Eric Guido

Robert Parker

88 points

"The Voliero 2023 Rosso di Montalcino offers a straightforward but expressive style, marked by bright fruit, gentle spice and a subtle pithy edge that adds energy and lift. Mineral tones support an easy, open-knit profile, while the wine’s texture is notably more viscous and glossy compared to cooler vintages. The vineyards sit at roughly 350 meters in elevation on sand and clay soils, contributing freshness to the fruit-driven character. Production is limited to 5,920 bottles with larger formats." —Monica Larner
