Robert Parker

95 points

"The inaugural 2018 Jaspis Syrah 10⁴ offers a deep, pure and elegant, finely refreshing mineral and smoky bouquet of black fruits, olive tapenade, raw meat and black pepper. On the palate, this is a full-bodied, rich and very intense yet also pure, fresh and tight, vibrantly mineral and persistently saline Syrah. It's impressively fresh and tight for this extraordinary warm and dry vintage but also sweet, generous and warming on the finish. The tannins are crunchy but fine and intermingled with chalky, vivacious acidity that gives this red fabulous energy, drive and length. 13% stated alcohol." —Stephan Reinhardt

"What incredible, thrilling, open and expressive aromas of resinous herbs, thyme, dried blood and smoked salami. Intense, light-bodied, silky, fresh and transparent, with great acidity and length. Similar to a very good Côte-Rôtie. Extraordinary. Grown on steep limestone slopes in Efringen-Kirchen, close to the French and Austrian borders; 40% whole bunch."

WINE GUIDES

German Wines

Is there a better grape than Riesling? Is there a better value? Its fruit purity, its perfume, and its mineral nuance are all unparalleled. And for centuries, the top German Rieslings were priced accordingly: at least as expensive as the top red wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy. But nowadays you could spend a lifetime exploring Germany’s great Riesling-producing regions while staying well within your budget. You might take an occasional break to try Germany’s other white grapes or perhaps a glass of Spätburgunder (the local name for Pinot Noir). It’s time to get started!
