What's Happening in August 2023 at Flatiron Wines NYC!
We love the late summer days and the opportunities they bring to unwind, travel and get ready for the busy fall season. But summer relaxation doesn't mean we're slacking on wine education! August brings two more Summer Wine School classes, a special winemaker dinner collaboration with Craft New York and Schramsberg, and more. Join us using the links below, and watch this space as we add new events all month.
Oh, and check out our brand-new Wine School page, where you can learn all about our exciting educational programming!
Flatiron Wine School: New dedicated page, plus August and September classes!
We've sold out every one of our summer classes so far, so don't wait if you're looking to check out our remaining session, Welcome to South Africa. And this fall, we're going big. We've added classes every week in September and October, including two special Masterclasses with our own John Beaver Truax, seminars by visiting producers, and more. Keep an eye on our new Wine School page to see them all and snag tickets before they're gone!
August 7: Welcome to South Africa (taught by Julia Burke, DWSET)
Julia's passion for South Africa is no secret, but she has a particular case to make for this amazing wine region: it's one of the best places in the world to find wineries engaged in amazing social and environmental initiatives. From diverse winemaker initiatives and economic empowerment to grassroots sustainability agreements between benchmark estates, South Africa's brands don't just make wine worth supporting––they also make wine that will take your summer grilling, entertaining and date nights to the next level.
Flatiron's own Julia Burke (DWSET) worked two harvests in South Africa and will present some of her favorite South African wines. This class will begin at 6:00pm on Monday, July 10 and run for approximately 90 minutes as we taste five wines. Wines discussed in class will be available for purchase with a discount available to attendees only. Seating is limited. Get tickets now.
August 21: Unlocking the Secrets of Blind Tasting (taught by Annie Edgerton, DWSET, CS, CSW) SOLD OUT
It’s no surprise that fancy Wineaux with lots of credentials are experienced blind tasters. There is definitely something to be said for learning and experiencing enough to be able to asses a wine without knowing its pedigree, variety, or origin. But so many wine lovers (and a few Hollywood productions) are entranced by the incredible confidence with which some tasters are able to identify wines. How do they do it? Whether you are a very experienced taster or a wine lover just beginning your journey, Flatiron team member and Wine Minx®️ Annie Edgerton will help you unlock the secrets of blind tasting.
This class will sample five wines blind and cover how to assess structural elements of acid, tannin, body, and alcohol, along with fruit intensity, concentration, complexity, and evolution, and more. Annie will help you focus the “mental Rolodex” of wines you’re familiar with, and show you how to pick up cues from winemaking, origin, variety, and quality to impress your friends—or maybe undertake high-level wine exams! This class will begin at 6:00pm on Monday, August 21 and run for approximately 90 minutes. Wines discussed in class will be available for purchase with a discount available to attendees only. Seating is limited. This class is sold out. Click here to request a spot on the waiting list.
Each class begins at 6pm. Classes will last approximately 90 minutes and feature five wines. Wines discussed in class will be available for purchase with a discount available to attendees only. Seating is limited.
Single class admission: $50
Schramsberg/Davies Winemaker Dinner at Craft

The dinner will be held on Tuesday, August 15 starting at 6:30pm at Craft, and you can view the invitation and purchase tickets here. See the menu and get tickets here.
Australia Masterclass with Tim Smith
One of Australia's most renowned winemakers, Barossa-based Tim Smith, also happens to be a Flatiron favorite. When we found out he'd be in town for a few days, we jumped at the chance to get him on our mezzanine. On Sunday, August 20, 2023 at 5:30pm, Tim will join us for what promises to be an enlightening seminar that touches on Australia's never-more-exciting current wine industry, its future, and maybe a few library treats for a glimpse of the past. Get tickets here.
