The youngest of these library Burguets and the one with the longest road still ahead. "Mes Favorites" is the calling card of a domaine Alain Burguet built from nothing: old-vine Pinot Noir from roughly thirty parcels across seven Gevrey lieux-dits, wild-yeast ferments and long barrel aging in the traditional Cote de Nuits mold. 2010 was a classic, structured Burgundy vintage, and at this age the wine is just entering a long, generous drinking window with real Gevrey backbone. Village-level appellation, old-vine depth. There's no rush.

"A cool, pure and exceptionally pretty nose is similar to that of the Symphonie but here there is a bit more aromatic complexity. There is excellent precision to the mineral-tinged, delicious and again, slightly more complex flavors that possess solid balance and outstanding length with no warmth. This is a really impressive effort for its level and should amply repay mid-term cellaring."

"The 2010 Gevrey-Chambertin Mes Favorites Vieilles Vignes is beautifully focused and pure. It reveals gorgeous energy in its fruit, along with attractive floral notes that add lift as the wine fleshes out on the finish. These old-vine parcels scattered across Brochon and Gevrey average 60-70 years of age." —Antonio Galloni

More about Alain Burguet

Alain Burguet started from scratch in Gevrey-Chambertin in 1976, piecing together over 40 small parcels as older vineyard owners retired. Now Jean-Luc and Eric Burguet run the domaine—working 9.5 hectares organically since the late '70s and biodynamically now, 100% destemmed fruit, minimal new oak, unfined and unfiltered. These are Pinot Noirs built for meditation, not showing off. Pure, mineral, alive.

Structured, medium-bodied mature Gevrey: dark red fruit moving toward earth and spice, with firm but resolving tannins. Drinking well, will hold.
