Alex Foillard continues his family's Beaujolais legacy with old-vine Gamay from granite soils in Brouilly. Farming is organic, and fermentations are whole-cluster and native. Aging occurs in used barrels, and bottling is without fining or filtration.

This 2023 bottling is vibrant and structured, a serious cru Beaujolais shaped by minimal intervention and deep-rooted vines. Only a few thousand bottles are produced annually.

Antonio Galloni

"The 2023 Brouilly comes from 80- to 90-year-old vines on pure granite soils. It aged primarily in used oak with the rest in tank. This has an elegant bouquet, mixing very well-defined hints of pure red fruit, crushed stone and bergamot tea. The palate is framed by fine tannins, a keen line of acidity and sapidity. It's fresh and vibrant with a dash of black pepper on the aftertaste." —Neal Martin

More about Alex Foillard

Alex Foillard is part of the younger generation reshaping Beaujolais, armed with a proper education in viticulture and enology from Beaune. The son of natural winemaking pioneer Jean Foillard, Alex brought his own vineyards into the mix—parcels in Brouilly and Côte-de-Brouilly—broadening the family's palette beyond their Morgon heritage. He works whole-cluster fermentation with natural yeasts and zero additives, producing Gamay that's both serious and simple: lush fruit, refreshing minerality, the kind of wine that tastes like it knew what it was from the start.
