This seminar offers a unique opportunity to discover the "other side" of South American wine through a tasting of rare, historic, and unconventional bottles from Chile, Argentina, and Uruguay. Join us on Monday, November 9 at 6pm on our mezzanine to explore this fascinating world.
We will cover the old bush vines of Southern Chile, where American viticulture began in the 1550s. We will also explore wines from the Calingasta Valley of San Juan, north of Mendoza where sacramental church vines were planted in the high mountain desert. We will open wine from the oldest continuously family-owned vineyard in the Americas. We will taste biodynamic Pinot Noir from Coastal Casablanca, Chile from a domaine started by Julio Donoso and Andre Ostertag. We will experience a wine from one of the only remaining vineyards in Chacras de Coria, Mendoza, Argentina that comes from a 0.85 hectare vineyard planted in 1916. And we will delve in to one of the first skin contact wines made in South America.
The event will be hosted by Brian Ravitsky, who is looking forward to welcoming you. Brian co-founded Brazos Wine Imports with his good friend Jon Chaplin, landing their first tranche of wine in 2009. Having started in the food and beverage industry at the age of thirteen, he began his career in wine distribution when he was twenty-three. Ten years later, he launched Brazos with the vision of importing real wines with soul, free of set parameters or dogma. While their first wines came from Argentina, Chile, and eventually Uruguay, they chose—after looking at other parts of the world—to keep their focus strictly on South America, feeling there is still too much work to be done and too much story to tell.
Please join us on Monday, November 9 at 6pm on our mezzanine to meet Brian and discuss all aspects of South American wine!
