A 43-year-old Barolo from a producer that's been bottling like nobody else since 1854. Antica Casa Vinicola Scarpa was founded in Nizza Monferrato (in the Asti zone, well east of the Barolo hills) and is famous for cellaring its wines longer than essentially any other producer in Piedmont — Scarpa releases vintages decades after harvest as a matter of house style. Tettimorra is the estate's Barolo, drawn from a single hectare in La Morra sitting between the Bricco San Biagio and Roggeri crus (near Arborina), aged a minimum of three years in large 50hl casks of both Slavonian and French Allier oak plus at least two more in bottle before release. The 1982 vintage was a warm year in Piedmont; at 43 years on, this is fully resolved and squarely in museum-piece territory — pure structure, spice, and mineral in the old style, where fruit is no longer the point.
