Another late-released library Tettimorra from the cellar that built its reputation on patience. Antica Casa Vinicola Scarpa was founded in 1854 in Nizza Monferrato — outside the Barolo zone but with grandfathered rights to vinify and bottle Barolo and Barbaresco — and has long held wines deep into mature drinking windows before release. Tettimorra is Scarpa's single-hectare Barolo from a parcel near La Morra (between the Bricco San Biagio and Roggeri crus, close to Arborina), aged for approximately three years in large 50hl casks of both Slavonian and French Allier oak before bottling. The 1988 vintage was a good classical year in Piedmont; at 37 years on, this sits in its fully mature window — tannins long resolved, the wine's structural, mineral, traditional spine on full display. As pure an expression of old-school Barolo philosophy as exists anywhere on a wine list today.
