From one of the steepest, most revered parcels within the Zieregg vineyard, Steilriegel is a showcase for how serious Morillon (the local name for Chardonnay) can be in Südsteiermark. Grown biodynamically on pure coral-limestone soils at high elevation, this Grosse STK Lage bottling is fermented with native yeasts and aged in large neutral oak barrels for nuance without distraction.

The 2021 vintage is cool and focused—layered but taut, with aromas of lemon zest, crushed oyster shell, and white flowers. The palate is precise and textural, unfolding slowly into notes of green apple, hazelnut, and saline minerality. There's real tension here—no excess weight, just depth through restraint.

This isn’t Chardonnay that begs for attention—it rewards patience. Decant it young, pair it with delicate seafood or alpine cheeses, or cellar it confidently for 8–12 years. Tement’s Steilriegel doesn’t shout, but it absolutely sings.

Ried Zieregg is perhaps Tement's most well-known wine. Zieregg is classified as a Grosse Lage or grand cru. Tement has 16 parcels in the Zieregg vineyard, 13 of which are planted to Sauvignon Blanc, and the sites are characterized by steep slopes, old vines, and coralline limestone. Like all of the Tement wines, the fermentation is spontaneous and natural. The wine is aged for 20 months on the lees in big, neutral oak casks. Bottled unfiltered.
