Antonio Galloni

97 points

"The 2021 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione is a classic wine from this site. Vibrant, focused and finely cut, the 2021 dazzles with finesse. Crushed rocks, mint, slate, white pepper, mint and orange peel all race across the palate. The 2021 Rocche is everything Barolo is—everything it can be. I especially admire its intensely saline energy. This is shaping up to be one of the wines of the vintage." —Antonio Galloni

Robert Parker

97 points

"The Oddero 2021 Barolo Rocche di Castiglione shows that etched minerality and soaring verticality that you can expect of this celebrated MGA site. This (and the 2021 Barolo Brunate) are my favorites in this group of single-vineyard releases. I love the sharpness, the focus, the tension and those taut tannins that stitch it together. This wine reveals a note of candied cherry, raspberry and terrific fruit purity. It ages in botte grande for 24 months, and 3,000 bottles were created." —Monica Larner

Jancis Robinson

"Castiglione Falletto. Lustrous mid ruby. Very closed and subdued on the nose with hints of garden herbs and brooding cherry. Backward on the palate as well, with suave and compact cherry and beautifully sculpted tannins that fit the fruit like a glove. Needs more time."

Kerin O'Keefe

93 points

"Intensely floral aromas of fragrant purple flower lead the nose along with more delicate scents of wild berry and dark culinary spice. Taut and firmly structured, the linear palate features red cherry, pomegranate, white pepper and ground clove alongside fresh acidity. Tightly woven, close grained tannins provide the backbone. Drink 2031–2041." —Kerin O'Keefe

More about Oddero

Super fresh, glowing Barolo from a 200-year legacy. Poderi Oddero dates to the 1700s and released its first bottled Barolo in 1878. Now run by sixth and seventh generations (Mariavittoria and Mariacristina and their children), they're certified organic and own some of Barolo's best crus: Bussia, Brunate, Vignarionda. The wines pop with bright red fruit and mineral finesse—drinkability with authority.

From the Importer

What Polaner Selections has to say about this wine:

VineyardSourced from their .66 hectare parcel of Rocche in Castiglione Falletto. This is one of the parcels that has been in their family for the longest time - over 50 years. Their parcel contains a small part of the Rocche vineyard that crosses over into the Monforte d'Alba commune.OrientationSoutheast at 250m in elevation.SoilRocche is surrounded by forest. The soil is a mix of marl, sandstone and limestone.ViticultureHand-harvested in mid-October. Practicing organic.VinificationEach cru is fermented and macerated separately in stainless steel for about 20 days.AgingEach cru is aged separately for 30 months in a mix of very large 40 to 75 HL casks of Austrian and Slavonian oak. In the spring, the crus are assembled into the final blend and then bottled at the end of summer. Finally, the wine spends a minimum of six months in the bottle before release.
