Bitouzet-Prieur is one of the great under-the-radar names of the Côte de Beaune, and François Bitouzet's Meursault Clos du Cromin is a quiet argument for seeking them out. The Clos du Cromin is a walled lieu-dit village Meursault — chalk-rich limestone soils that deliver a wine of classical restraint and genuine transparency. There's no oak showboating here, just the honest expression of one of Burgundy's finest white-wine villages at a price that still makes sense. The style is precise and mineral: very much in the tradition of serious Côte de Beaune whites, while remaining comparatively affordable.

"This is also quite aromatically pretty and similar to the Corbins save for having more evident floral elements in play. The generous, delicious and plump medium weight flavors possess fine volume if not quite the same refinement on the firm and highly inviting finish. This is also lovely for its level and recommended as well."

"The 2023 Meursault Clos du Cromin is stonier and more mineral-driven than the Les Corbins, with a touch of sea spray complementing the yellow fruit. It is energetic and nicely focused. The palate is well balanced with a rounded texture, though it just misses a little cohesion toward the finish. Let's see how it shows once in bottle." —Neal Martin

More about Bitouzet-Prieur

Domaine Bitouzet-Prieur sits in the heart of Volnay, born from the marriage of Vincent Bitouzet and Ann Prieur, combining their family's vineyard holdings. Today, Francois Bitouzet works alongside his parents, maintaining organic viticulture with techniques like sexual confusion to reduce insect pressure. Their Passetoutgrains—two-thirds old-vine Pinot Noir, one-third Gamay from a single vineyard plot—receives proper élevage in used barrels. This is lovely, complex Burgundy that delivers sheer pleasure without pretension.
