Antonio Galloni

96 points

"The 2018 Extra-Brut Hors Série is superb. This really bristles with tension and energy, while also offering more mid-palate presence than the 2017 tasted alongside it. White flowers, chalk, mint, slate and lemon oil stain the palate. This chiseled, beautifully sculpted Champagne has so much to offer. The eternal finish is impossible to miss. Dosage is 0.75 grams per liter." —Antonio Galloni

Robert Parker

95 points

"Disgorged in May 2026 with a dosage of two grams per liter and tasted from magnum, Chartogne’s 2018 Blanc de Blancs Hors Série is a success in the context of this abundant vintage, revealing aromas of peach, pear and citrus oil mingled with notes of freshly baked bread, yellow apple and apricot. Medium- to full-bodied, ample and enveloping, it is built around a rich core of fruit enlivened by chalky structuring extract and ripe yet racy acidity, concluding with a long, precise finish. Although produced using the same methods as the rest of the range, it is Chartogne’s only cuvée from the Côte des Blancs, hence its distinct labeling." —Kristaps Karklins

More about Chartogne-Taillet

After a stage with Antoine Selosse, Alexandre Chartogne returned to the family estate and turned it upside down. He spent years experimenting and tinkering with every aspect of Champagne making from vine management to vessels. He's landed back where he says his ancestors started: in the vineyards, growing perfect fruit and aging in neutral oak.

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
