Labegorce makes the case that you don't need a classified-growth ranking to drink like Margaux royalty. The Perrodo family, who also own the third-growth Marquis d'Alesme, have invested heavily here, and the wine shows it: this is polished, perfumed Margaux with real refinement. The 2016 is Merlot-led (about 52%) with a healthy dose of Cabernet Sauvignon and dashes of Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, from a near-perfect growing season. Expect ripe blackcurrant and plum lifted by graphite and that signature Margaux elegance. Drinks well now with a decant, or cellar it for a decade or more.

More about Chateau Labegorce

Margaux's classified growths have an elegant severity that not everyone appreciates. Labegorce embraces that spirit fully—a wine that rewards patience and rewards those who understand that Margaux isn't about power. It's about finesse, cut, and a kind of understated aristocracy.
