Clos du Mont-Olivet is one of Chateauneuf-du-Pape's great traditional estates, run by the Sabon family since 1932 across a patchwork of old-vine, Grenache-dominant parcels. This is classic, sun-warmed southern Rhone made the old way, with the depth and generosity the appellation is famous for. The 2011 was a supple, sweetly fruited vintage — charming and accessible rather than blockbuster — and at well over a decade old it has reached a lovely mature drinking window. Earthy, peppery, and ready to pour now alongside a hearty meal.
