Marjorie is Cristom's heritage block — the oldest vineyard on the estate, planted in 1982 on its own roots, predating Paul Gerrie's 1991 purchase of the property. He named it for his mother, Marjorie Gerrie. The block is planted at unusually wide spacing (just 605 vines per acre) to old-school selections of Pommard, Wädenswil, and Martini. Some of Marjorie has been replanted since the early 2000s due to phylloxera pressure, but the core remains own-rooted and ancient by Oregon standards. The result is the most muscular and broad-shouldered of Cristom's "estate family" Pinots — deeper-fruited and weightier than its sisters, with the savory complexity that only old vines and Steve Doerner's whole-cluster cellar work can produce.

Antonio Galloni

"The 2023 Pinot Noir Marjorie Vineyard is youthfully understated and coy, blending dusty floral tones with dried strawberries and nuances of autumnal spice. Harmonious and pure in style, it offers vivid raspberry fruit elevated by a hint of sour citrus as a collection of fine-grained tannins adds cheek-puckering tension through the close. Spicy and exceptionally long, the 2023 finishes structured with a tart blackberry twang. Patience is required." —Eric Guido

"The 2023 Pinot Noir Marjorie Vineyard was fermented with 45% whole clusters and matured for 18 months in 31% new French oak. It has layered, savory scents of mushrooms, flint and pipe tobacco over a core of red cherry, blackberry and orange peel. The medium-bodied palate pairs earth-laced flavors with pleasantly rustic, chalky tannins. It’s balanced by bright acidity and has a long, layered finish. 636 cases were made." —Erin Brooks

"Well-framed and tightly focused, with raspberry and red currant flavors that take on forest floor and black tea as this gathers tension toward medium-grained tannins"

More about Cristom

Founder and owner Paul Gerrie has used his skills as an engineer and avid researcher to pursue his passion for wine. On his travels to France, he was introduced to and embraced the traditional growing practices of Burgundy which he now instills in his own wines. Use of whole cluster and native yeast fermentation allows for the fruit and land to truly express themselves and Cristom has also farmed sustainably since 1992.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Pour with grilled ribeye, braised short ribs, roast leg of lamb, or venison stew. Also superb with hard aged cheeses, mushroom risotto, duck with blackberry sauce, or smoked meats.

Tasting Profile

Medium- to full-bodied, with black cherry, dark plum, dried fig, sweet tobacco, leather, and forest floor. The tannins are firm and ripe, the mid-palate broad and savory, the finish long, earthy, and unmistakably old-vine in depth.
