While the rest of the Burgundy market races to sell the youngest, tightest vintages, Meix Foulot lets its wines arrive when they're actually ready to drink — and here that means a 2020 red with six years of age already behind it. Agnès de Launay runs this fiercely traditional estate as a true Mercurey specialist: not a single vine outside the village, virtually no new oak, and old, low-yielding parcels on steep limestone. "Les Veleys" is the domaine's most classic premier cru site, southeast-facing and structured, long considered one of the most ageworthy wines of the appellation. 2020 was a warm, generous year, but Mercurey's higher elevation kept it vibrant rather than heavy. This is savory, honest, ready-now red Burgundy at a price the Côte d'Or forgot how to offer.
