The greatest wines aren't always the most obvious, and Elena Fucci's 'Titolo' is proof. From an extinct volcano in Basilicata, one of southern Italy's least-expected corners, Fucci built her name on this one flagship wine, pouring everything into it. The fruit comes from old Aglianico vines, many planted in the 1950s, rooted in dark volcanic soils high on Monte Vulture near Barile. This is Aglianico as reference point: structured yet soulful, with the kind of depth that comes from a family devoted to one place. Delicious now, but it will happily reward a stash in the cellar.
