A rosé Champagne from one of the most sought-after growers working today. His whole estate makes only 7,000 to 8,000 bottles in total, so this is one to buy when you see it. The "d'Assemblage" on the label tells you how it gets its colour: it comes from blending, not from bleeding juice off the skins. Emmanuel Brochet is a first-generation grower. He started in 1997, released his first label in 2002 and farmed without chemicals for about ten years before he was certified organic in 2011. He still does nearly all the vineyard and cellar work himself, almost entirely by hand. In the cellar he keeps things traditional and hands-off. He keeps only the first-press juice, ferments naturally in barrique and adds a little sulfur only once malolactic is done. For the second fermentation in bottle, he uses ambient yeasts he chose himself. Like everything Brochet makes, it's Extra Brut: rosé Champagne for people who want their pink serious, not sweet.

Robert Parker

"Disgorged in January 2026, Emmanuel Brochet’s NV Rosé d'Assemblage (2023 base), incorporating some 20% reserve wines from 2020, soars from the glass with aromas of redcurrant, blood orange and pomegranate mingled with notes of spice and bread dough. Medium- to full-bodied, ample and textural, it is built around a generous core of fruit, with the richness of Pinot Meunier offset by a considerable proportion of Chardonnay. Laden with ripe yet vibrant acidity, it concludes with a long, perfumed finish. As ever, it is produced from purchased fruit; although the supplier harvests the grapes himself, pressing and vinification take place at Brochet's winery." —Kristaps Karklins

What has to say about this wine:

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Seared duck breast with a cherry sauce, salmon or tuna tartare, thin-sliced jamón or bresaola, roast beet salad with goat cheese, or grilled quail.

Tasting Profile

Expect red-berry fruit, with wild strawberry, redcurrant and a hint of cherry, plus the subtle spice and roundness that barrel fermentation typically brings. An Extra Brut Meunier rosé like this usually drinks bone-dry and vinous, with fine, persistent bubbles, bright acidity and a chalky, savoury finish. Think of it as a serious Champagne for the dinner table rather than a frivolous pink aperitif.

Champagne

Champagne boasts some of the world’s greatest luxury brands with Krug, Cristal and, of course, Dom Perignon. But it’s also home to hundreds of small dynamic producers—farmers who grow their own grapes (often organically) and make (often with natural methods) tiny amounts of pure and absolutely delicious wine that reflect the individual personalities of their villages and terroirs. Toast with these wines, for sure. But also treat them like the great wines they are: taste, drink, explore!
