Eyrie is the founding estate of Oregon wine. David Lett, known as Papa Pinot, moved to the Dundee Hills in 1965 with 3,000 grape cuttings and a hunch that Pinot Noir and its cousins could thrive on the region's volcanic Jory soils. Among those cuttings was the first commercial planting of Pinot Gris in America, in 1966. Sixty years on, his son Jason Lett carries the estate forward with the same restrained, classical hand. The Estate Pinot Gris is the benchmark American expression of the grape, drawn from those original Dundee Hills plantings. Lower in alcohol, dry, and built around mineral cut rather than fruit weight, it is a quiet, transparent wine that rewards close attention at the table.

"The 2023 Pinot Gris Estate is wildly fresh, with an airy bouquet of dusty dried flowers, cracked slate and lemon oil tempting the imagination. It is soothingly round and pure in style, with ripe orchard fruit swirling across a core of zesty acidity. Lime mingles with a tinge of sour green melon on the finish, punctuated by nuances of fresh mint." —Eric Guido

"The 2023 Estate Pinot Gris comes from vines averaging about 29 years in age. Tank-fermented and matured for 11 months sur lie, it has inviting aromas of peach, apricot, green herbs, honey and spice. The medium-bodied palate features expressive, honeyed flavors and a softly oily texture. It’s balanced by fresh acidity and has a long, floral finish. 1,952 cases were made." —Erin Brooks

"A fleshier wine from the warm 2023 vintage, notes of pear and savoury herbals, and mint leaf. Fleshy, phenolic and opulent on the palate with ripe stone. Propagation from the original three vines David Lett planted at a nursery block near Corvallis and then again at Eyrie in 1966."

"Lush and fragrant, with precise flavors of pear, melon and spices that build richness on the finish. Drink now."

More about Eyrie

David Lett planted the first Pinot Noir vines in Oregon's Willamette Valley in 1965 and released the first vintage in 1970. He also pioneered Pinot Gris in America. His 1975 Reserve placed second at the 1979 Wine Olympics, losing by a hair to a 1959 Burgundy. David's vision transformed Oregon from a wild frontier into a world-class Pinot region.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Pour with steamed shellfish, halibut with brown butter, roast chicken, or a simple goat cheese salad. Trout, summer squash, sushi, and Asian dishes with ginger and lime also pair beautifully with this dry, mineral-driven white.

Tasting Profile

Pear skin, white peach, lemon zest, fennel, and crushed stone. Dry, medium-bodied, and saline, with subtle texture and bright acidity. A quiet, classical Pinot Gris built around restraint and minerality rather than fruit weight.
