Failla is the cool-climate California project of veteran winemaker Ehren Jordan, who built his reputation at Turley before turning to elegant Pinot Noir and Syrah from the Sonoma Coast. Occidental Ridge sits in the fog-swept hills near the town of Occidental, one of the coolest, foggiest pockets of the Sonoma Coast, and the wine reflects it: red-fruited, silky, and lifted rather than heavy. Jordan's deft touch gives polish without weight. The 2015 came from a small, concentrated California vintage and has had time to round into shape. Decant briefly and serve slightly cool.
