A fully mature Barolo from the famed Brunate cru, and from one of the great traditionalist names that somehow stayed under the radar. Francesco Rinaldi e Figli has been making Barolo since the 1800s, farming two hectares of Brunate on the La Morra–Barolo border at 250 to 350 meters, with long macerations and years in big Slavonian casks the old-fashioned way. 2006 was a classic, structured vintage — the kind that demands twenty years and repays them — and this bottle has now had them. Expect the dried-rose, tar and forest-floor end of Nebbiolo rather than primary fruit, with the firm backbone still holding everything together. Decant gently and treat it as the special-occasion pour it is.
