Twelve years in Oloroso sherry and bourbon casks, then married in oak tuns — which is why it tastes rounder and sweeter than its age suggests. Glenfiddich's 12 Year Old is the flagship of the house and the expression that started it all. It's the distillery's youngest age-stated whisky, and the age statement means every drop has spent at least twelve years in wood. What keeps it interesting rather than merely ubiquitous is the operation behind it: Glenfiddich remains one of very few single malt distilleries still entirely family owned, with its own coppersmiths and cooperage on site and the Robbie Dhu spring — land and all — in family hands. Drink it neat, on the rocks, with a splash of water, or built into a highball; that's the producer's own advice, and all four work.

Perfect Pairings

Smoked salmon on brown bread, aged cheddar or Isle of Mull cheese, salted caramel or sticky toffee pudding, roast pork belly with apple. In a highball with soda and a lemon twist, it handles salty snacks — fried chicken, charcuterie, potato chips.

Tasting Profile

Fresh and fruity on the nose with a distinct note of pear. The palate is sweet and fruity up front, then turns to butterscotch, cream and malt with subtle oak underneath. Medium-bodied and smooth, no smoke, nothing sharp. The finish is long, mellow and gently sweet.
