Sylvaner rarely gets the spotlight, which is exactly why this one is such a find. From Henry Fuchs, the organic, fourth-generation family domaine in Ribeauville, this comes off the estate's oldest vines, more than sixty years planted, and old vines are what turn Sylvaner from simple to serious. Where young-vine Sylvaner can be plain, this has structure and a savory, honeyed depth alongside its lemony snap. It's dry, light on its feet, and endlessly thirst-quenching, with a rustic charm that makes it a brilliant everyday white. Consider it Alsace's quiet insider grape, done right.

More about Henry Fuchs

The Fuchs family took up viticulture in 1922, and Paul (fourth generation) flipped the switch to organic in the mid-2000s. His ten-and-a-half-hectare Alsace domain spans Ribeauvillé, Hunawihr, and Bergheim in marl-limestone terroir. He's making dry, rich Riesling, Gewürztraminer, and Pinot Gris that taste like the foothills of the Vosges actually matter.
