Burghound

93 points

"A discreet application of oak sets off markedly floral-suffused white orchard fruit aromas. Once again there is a strikingly lovely texture to the generously proportioned medium weight flavors that deliver excellent length on the balanced finale. Like several wines in the range, this too could use better depth so some patience is recommended. With that said, Champs Canet almost always drinks well young so if you’re going to pull a Carillon ’23 to try, this would be a good choice. Outstanding."

Antonio Galloni

"The 2023 Puligny-Montrachet Champs Canet 1er Cru, which comes from vines on the mid-slope, has an open nose with apple blossom, grass clippings and fennel notes. The palate is similarly open and expressive already, but there is a little more tension than the Village Cru, with more density and grip on the finish. Drink this over the next five to seven years." —Neal Martin

Robert Parker

90 points

"Aromatic and expressive, the 2023 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Champ Canet delivers aromas of orange blossom, peach and honey, followed by a medium to full-bodied, ample and unctuous palate that's textural and enveloping." —William Kelley

More about Jacques Carillon

The Carillon family's roots in Puligny-Montrachet trace back to 1520, and today Jacques works 5.25 hectares of prime real estate with near-organic rigor. Eleven small parcels, all hand-harvested, aged in a six-year barrel rotation with restrained new oak—the result is limestone-driven white Burgundy of remarkable precision and minerality.

Flatiron's Take

From the Importer

Located at the northern limit of Puligny on the border of Meursault, Jacques’ ever-elegant Champs Canet comes from a 0.55-hectare parcel planted by his father in 1973. It offers a gorgeous combination of generosity and minerality, always with a floral overlay and a mouthwatering impression of quinine. This cuvée displays outstanding equilibrium, with a kinetic palate on which the ripe citrus fruits and punchy chalk engage in a saliva-inducing tango.
