Joseph Drouhin spent years as one of Burgundy's top negociants and now prefers to be thought of as a top domaine, and their Chambolle-Musigny shows why. Chambolle is the village that turns Pinot Noir into perfume and lace, and this 1er Cru bottling captures that signature delicacy and lift. The 2017 vintage gave wines of charm and balance, so this is open and inviting now while having the structure to hold for years. It's the prettier, more aromatic side of Burgundy. Drink now or cellar; either way it rewards. A graceful, classic red.

Burghound

"A restrained, cool and elegant nose is comprised by notes of red currant, a pretty array of spice elements and a hint of lilac. The gorgeously refined and satiny middle weight flavors exude plenty of minerality that also suffuses the driving, detailed and beautifully persistent finish. A classic Chambolle of lace and grace."

Antonio Galloni

"The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru has an open nose of brambly red fruit, sous-bois and wilted rose petals, very pure and charming, and not dissimilar in style to François Bertheau's Chambolle 1er Cru. The palate is very harmonious, open and transparent. It feels lighter than others, yet the tension and precision will see this age with style, and perhaps it will not close down. Tempting now, but I would prefer to wait. Classy. Tasted blind at the Burgfest 2017 tasting." —Neal Martin

Robert Parker

93 points

"The 2017 Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru soars from the glass with an exquisite bouquet of raspberries, cassis, dried rose petals, cinnamon and cloves. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, satiny and supple, with an expansive attack that segues into a fleshy core of sweet and succulent fruit, framed by lively acids and melting tannins. Generous, open and expressive, this will offer a broad drinking window and is well worth seeking out." —William Kelley

Wine Spectator

"Packed with cherry, black currant, violet and mineral aromas and flavors, this is supple and elegant. A tight combination of acidity and tannins lends the backdrop the flavors to develop. Shows fine balance and length."

More about Joseph Drouhin

One of Burgundy's giants since 1880, Drouhin controls more Grand Cru vineyard than almost anyone else. The house began converting to organic in 1993, achieving biodynamic certification by 1996, and their recent releases hum with freshness that contradicts the family's massive scale. This is Burgundy at its most authoritative.
