Most California Sauvignon Blanc comes from the valley floor; this one grows on a ridgetop around 2,400 feet in the Moon Mountain District, where the air is cooler and the soils are a complex mix of ancient seabed and volcanic rock. That high-elevation site, farmed organically and biodynamically by veteran grower Phil Coturri, gives Korbin Kameron's Sauvignon Blanc real energy and definition. Tiny yields are fermented in a blend of stainless steel and oak, then aged briefly in French oak, just 20% new, for a touch of texture without losing the grape's bright snap. The result is a more serious, structured take on California Sauvignon Blanc. Pour it cold.

More about Korbin Kameron

Korbin Kameron grows mountain Bordeaux varieties at about 2,300 feet, on a ridge straddling the Napa-Sonoma line where the Moon Mountain District meets Mount Veeder. That altitude means a long, slow season and naturally fresh acidity.

Mitchell and Jenny Ming own the estate and named it for their twins, Korbin and Kameron. The founding inspiration was the legendary mountain Cabernets of the 1970s. Vines went in from 2000 and the first vintage was 2004. The vineyard is planted to all five red Bordeaux grapes plus Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon.

The vineyard is farmed by organic pioneer Phil Coturri, and Tim Milos, a mountain-Cabernet specialist, makes the wines. The reds, led by Cabernet Sauvignon and including an unusually structured Merlot, have lift as well as power. The Sauvignon Blanc is a more serious, textured take on the grape than the valley-floor norm.
