Aux Etelois is one of the most prized village lieux-dits in Gevrey-Chambertin—bordering Grand Cru vineyards, with deep, well-drained soils that give wines of both structure and elegance. Marchand-Tawse’s “Vignes de la Famille Tawse” bottling emphasizes old-vine material and gentle, precise winemaking that preserves terroir expression.

In the 2022 vintage, this wine is especially open-knit and seductive: black cherry, wild blackberry, baking spice, and forest floor, supported by silky tannins and a mineral backbone. There’s generous fruit up front, but the wine quickly reveals a savory, stony core—a true Gevrey with polish and depth.

Drink now with a decant or hold 5–10 years to see the full complexity emerge. A perfect pairing with roast duck, mushroom risotto, or aged cheeses.

Named for co-founders Morey Tawse and Pascal Marchand, Marchand Tawse has managed in short order to rocket to the top echelons of Burgundy producers, with gorgeous wines from Vosne, Nuits St. George, Pommard, Morey St. Denis and Chambertin. With the help of English winemaker Mark Fincham, Marchand-Tawse has been able to balance old world classic winemaking techniques with their own style of wines with vibrant character and elegance.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 91
"The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Les Etelois is 100% de-stemmed and is the only cuvée above 14% this year due to the precocity of the vineyard. The slightly high-toned bouquet offers blueberry and light cassis fruit, just blurred at the edges. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins. The 25% new oak is a little more vocal on the finish but will be subsumed by the bottling time. Give it a couple of years once in bottle." -Neal Martin
