A cult, hard-to-find Cote-Rotie from a traditionalist who brings an almost Burgundian grace to the Northern Rhone's most dramatic Syrah hillside. Pierre Benetiere makes Cordeloux from northern Cote-Rotie fruit, essentially pure Syrah with just a whisper of Viognier, using whole clusters and very little new oak, aiming for nuance rather than weight. Production is minuscule and bottles are genuinely scarce. The 2010 came from one of the Northern Rhone's great structured vintages, giving a Cordeloux with depth and class for the long haul. Decant a young bottle generously, or cellar it.

More about Marie et Pierre Benetiere

Pierre Benetiere trained under Georges Vernay in Condrieu, then carved terraces out of Côte-Rôtie's southern slopes and planted vines by hand. Marie and Pierre work 3 hectares organically since 2003, using whole bunches, native yeasts, minimal new oak. Their Condrieu Cordeloux is the wine—bright Viognier, complex and mineral.
