Once known as “Napa Gamay”, Valdiguié is an obscure French grape with a long, somewhat convoluted history in California. It’s the perfect red wine for spring or summer — it takes a chill like a dream, offering up supple pink and red fruits (strawberry-rhubarb, watermelon, cherries) alongside fresh acidity and a low ABV. It’s definitely not a household name, but Outward’s Valdiguié is a must-have when it’s hot.

Ryan Pace and Natalie Siddique started Outward around 2016 with a couple of barrels from the Pace family's backyard vineyard in Santa Ynez. Today they farm a small leased vineyard near Avila Beach and source from coastal sites like Bassi Ranch, making Syrah, Chenin Blanc, Valdiguié and more to show how diverse the Central Coast can be. Small-lot, site-specific, and serious about terroir. The kind of project that starts with passion and scales only as far as principle allows.
