Mexico's answer to fine Chenin Blanc. Aldo César Palafox continues his family's 19th-century winemaking tradition in Mexico's Valle de Guadalupe, working exclusively with estate-grown fruit since 1997. The 'Pionero' name honors those who first planted vines in this rugged desert valley. More about Palafox

Aldo César Palafox's vineyards sit on Baja California's Antigua Ruta del Vino, in the Valle de la Grulla area south of Ensenada, one of the oldest winegrowing corners of Mexico. The family made wine for its own table back in the nineteenth century; in 1997 they planted noble varieties and went commercial, adding an underground cellar in 2009. Production is around 5,000 cases. The Pionero Blanco is Chenin Blanc, and a great way into Mexico's old-school wine country.
