Mexico's answer to fine Chenin Blanc. Aldo César Palafox continues his family's 19th-century winemaking tradition in Mexico's Valle de Guadalupe, working exclusively with estate-grown fruit since 1997. The 'Pionero' name honors those who first planted vines in this rugged desert valley. More about Palafox

Aldo Cesar Palafox works in Valle de la Grulla, south of Ensenada in Baja California, where the family's wine tradition stretches back to the nineteenth century. After focusing on family consumption for generations, 1997 marked a shift toward noble varieties; 2009 brought a subterranean cellar. Lourdes Martinez Ojeda is the winemaker. They produce 5,000 cases a year from a region that's just beginning to gain attention. Mexico's wine story is being rewritten by places like this.
