Mont Damnés is the Loire's most famous vineyard for a reason—a brutal north-facing chalk cliff where the best old-vine Sancerre still comes from Pascal Cotat's 1.5 hectares in the steepest sections. If La Grande Côte is Cotat's lush, supple statement, Mont Damnés is his manifesto of precision: chalky soils replace clay, and everything tightens. You get flinty minerality, tense acidity, and the sense of biting into crushed limestone. The vines are 35 years old—not as ancient as La Grande Côte, but planted on a slope so severe that every cluster works for ripeness. Same winemaking philosophy (unfined, unfiltered, indigenous yeasts), but the terroir speaks in a completely different dialect.
