Robert Ampeau is the stuff of Burgundy legend: a domaine famous for holding its wines for years, sometimes decades, before releasing them, so the bottles arrive ready to drink rather than to cellar. We've offered these library wines before and jumped on them when we could, because mature Burgundy at this level, from the domaine's own cellar, is a rare thing. This Volnay 1er Cru Les Santenots is a 1999, one of the great red Burgundy vintages, now fully mature. There's nothing to wait for; decant gently and enjoy a piece of Burgundy history.

More about Robert Ampeau et Fils

Robert Ampeau was a legend. His son Michel carries that tradition forward from Meursault, aging Burgundies in cold cellars for decades before they leave the domaine. Patient, old-school, uncompromising—if you want to taste what real Burgundy tastes like when left alone, this is it.
