Le Clos du Caillou sits completely surrounded by Chateauneuf vineyards—excluded from the appellation only because armed caretakers turned away surveyors in 1936. The Vacheron family (yes, that Sancerre family) took over in 1996 and farms biodynamically. Sandy soils give silky elegance. This Grenache-dominant blend sees 30% whole clusters, ages in foudre and demi-muid, and is bottled unfined and unfiltered. One of the southern Rhone's great values.
