Greece is set to blow up, and Troupis sits squarely in the vanguard. This small family domaine is based high on the Mantinia plateau in the Peloponnese, in the Fteri region — while the Fteri Agiorgitiko draws on Greece's signature red grape from the mountainous Corinthian hills above Nemea. The wine is made with short, cool maceration to preserve perfume and lift. The result is unmistakably red — dark cherry-purple in the glass — but feather-light on the palate, the kind of fresh, gulpable Agiorgitiko that makes a strong case for lightly chilling. Perfect Pairings

A natural with grilled meats — souvlaki, lamb chops, paidakia — but equally at home with braised meat in tomato sauce, coq au vin, mushroom pasta, eggplant moussaka or anything off the grill. Lightly chilled it sings beside pizza.

Tasting Profile

Bright dark cherry, pomegranate, gooseberry and crushed plum lead, lifted by sweet spice, dried herbs and a touch of caramel. Light- to medium-bodied with velvety tannins and a supple, juicy finish that begs for another glass.
