An Evening with Alphonse Mellot & Pierre-Jean Villa, 6/15/2026

$50.00

From ancient hillside vineyards to the darlings of Paris bistrots: two friends, two star winegrowers, Alphonse Mellot and Pierre-Jean Villa!

We are delighted to introduce these two producers who share a common vision regarding respect for their respective terroirs. The two estates, one located in the Loire Valley and the other in the Rhône Valley, are certified organic and embrace a biodynamic approach. Their absolute priority is working the soil to allow the unique character of each individual parcel to fully express itself. Within their respective regions, their wines are crafted with exceptional precision, featuring styles focused on purity, freshness, and aromatic tension.

Please join us on Monday, June 15 at 6pm on the mezzanine for a seminar led by friends, colleagues and kindred spirits Alphonse Mellot and Pierre-Jean Villa, as we taste and compare wines by both producers. This evening we will take the magic carpet to the epitome of Sancerre, Condrieu and Cote Rotie – fasten your seatbelts.

About Alphonse Mellot:

Domaine Alphonse Mellot is one of the benchmark estates in the Loire Valley, with origins dating back to the 16th century.

Heir to a winemaking tradition passed down for over five centuries, Alphonse Mellot has established a vision of wine that is modern, exacting, and deeply committed, making him a true visionary, a perfectionist, and a man deeply rooted in his heritage. His style blends elegance, precision, and emotion, driven by a constant quest for authenticity and excellence.

After earning his National Diploma in Oenology, Alphonse Mellot officially joined the family estate in 1990 with a clear ambition: to further elevate the expression of the Sancerre terroirs and the precision of his winemaking.

A pioneer in the region, he was one of the first to steer the vineyards toward organic, and subsequently biodynamic, viticulture, paying meticulous attention to the soil, natural cycles, and the balance of the vines. This philosophy gives rise to wines of remarkable precision renowned throughout the international gastronomic world, in which the energy of the terroir and the purity of the fruit are expressed with both intensity and elegance.

About Pierre-Jean Villa:

Within the Villa family, whether in Spain or in France, working the land has always been an integral part of the family heritage. Although Pierre-Jean did not inherit any vineyards, he grew up immersed in the world of wine: participating in the harvest, visiting cellars, tasting wines, and traveling the wine routes alongside his winemaker friends.

After a career in Burgundy beginning in the 1990s, working at prestigious estates such as Mommessin and Clos de Tart, Pierre-Jean reconnected with his childhood roots in the Rhône Valley in the early 2000s.

In 2009, he founded his own estate in the heart of the Northern Rhône, thereby embarking on a new chapter as an independent winemaker.

His flagship Rhône Valley estate spans 20 hectares of exceptional vineyards, distributed across both banks of the Rhône River: Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu, Saint-Joseph, and Crozes-Hermitage, as well as on the slopes of Seyssuel, just north of Vienne.

Pierre-Jean’s conviction is simple: a great wine can only be born from land and fruit that are deeply respected. His philosophy centers on the idea of allowing nature to guide the process. In the vineyard, his guiding principle is to preserve soil vitality; in the cellar, the grapes are handled with minimal intervention.

The wines are crafted to remain true to their terroir, expressing a delicate and authentic balance between the character of the land and the winemaker’s own ethos.

Today, his children have joined their father in upholding this commitment, and Pierre-Jean Villa now shares his knowledge and expertise with other winemakers eager to push boundaries both in the vineyard and in the cellar.
