Alsace doesn't usually get credit for serious Pinot Noir, but Albert Mann is one of the producers rewriting that story. Maurice and Jacky Barthelmé run this Wettolsheim estate biodynamically (certified since 2010), tending parcels that include several grand crus and yielding some of the region's most respected reds. Their entry-level Pinot Noir draws from estate vineyards around Wettolsheim and shows the house signature: real Burgundian seriousness without losing the lift and red-fruit transparency Alsace does so well. Now six years on, the 2019 is squarely in its window — primary fruit still bright, but with the savory edges and supple texture that come with bottle age. A great way into a domaine whose top wines disappear fast.
