This is Jacquère from the oldest parcel on the estate, with the soil still turned by horse. That matters because Jacquère has spent most of its history as a high-yielding afterthought, cropped for light cafe whites; drop the yields onto century-old vines and the grape turns saline, chiseled and genuinely mineral. Chignin's vineyards climb steep, sun-facing slopes of limestone scree below the Bauges massif, around 370 meters, looking across at the Belledonne peaks — good exposure, poor stony soil, cold alpine nights. Anne-Sophie Quénard took over in 2020, the first woman to lead a family that has farmed here since 1644, and she completed organic certification in 2024. Everything is picked by hand, fermented with native yeasts and raised in tank, so there's no oak anywhere near it. Serve it properly cold and drink it young, while the snap is at its brightest.

Flatiron's Take

From the Importer

What has to say about this wine:

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Made for alpine cheese - raclette, fondue, a young Beaufort or Tomme de Savoie - and just as good with trout, oysters, or a plate of charcuterie and cornichons. It also handles fried food, from tempura to a schnitzel, better than most whites its weight.

Tasting Profile

Aromas of white flowers, green apple, lemon peel and crushed stone. Light-bodied and bone dry, with bright, cutting acidity and a chalky, almost saline texture in place of obvious fruit sweetness. The finish is clean, mineral and quite long for a wine this light.
