What is this wine?
Domaine Bachelet-Monnot, founded in 2005 by brothers Marc and Alexandre Bachelet, has quickly become one of the most admired young estates in Burgundy. They farm parcels across the Côte de Beaune with meticulous care, vinifying with a light touch to highlight purity of fruit and terroir. This wine comes from old-vine Pinot Noir in Maranges, the southernmost appellation of the Côte de Beaune, where limestone and clay soils yield reds with both freshness and depth.

Why get this wine?
Maranges remains a source of excellent value in Burgundy, and in the hands of Bachelet-Monnot the wines punch far above their appellation. The old vines add concentration and complexity, while the domaine’s precise winemaking keeps the style elegant and energetic. For those seeking serious Burgundy character without the Côte de Nuits price tag, this is a standout.

What does this wine taste like?
Vivid and silky, with red cherry, raspberry, and wild strawberry, layered with subtle spice, earth, and mineral tones. Medium-bodied, with fine tannins and a lively, balanced finish.

When should you drink this wine?
Accessible in its youth for its pure fruit and charm—try it slightly chilled with roast chicken, duck, or mushroom dishes—but it can age 5–8 years for added nuance.

Professional Reviews

Antonio Galloni

AG 90
"A blend of three parcels of 45-year-old vines, the 2023 Maranges Vieilles Vignes was vinified with 25% whole cluster. This has a bright bouquet with blackberry and crushed stone scents, touches of tobacco and damp loam emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied and quite fresh with supple tannins, gentle grip and a dab of white pepper on the slightly dry finish. Enjoy it over five or six years." -Neal Martin
