A village Meursault with a place name on the label, from a single lieu-dit at the northern end of the commune just below Santenots, on the Volnay side. Les Criots is planted on pale, chalky soil that drains almost too fast, and Charles Ballot notes the parcel can suffer in dry years, but that drainage is exactly what gives the wine its slim, mineral cut instead of Meursault's more usual breadth. This is the leanest and most direct Meursault in the range, and a useful counterpoint to the firmer, higher-altitude Narvaux. Ballot farms his ten hectares without herbicides, harvests by hand and ferments with native yeasts; new oak stays low, there is no batonnage, and the wine spends twelve months in barrel and six in tank. 2024 was a wet, mildew-fought vintage with a small crop, and the surviving Chardonnay carries unusual tension, which suits this site. Drink it over the next five or six years.

"The 2024 Meursault Les Criots comes from clay soils over limestone. It has quite a generous nose with more yellow fruit than you would expect given the coolness of the season.
