93 points

"Baricci always makes one of the best Rossos in the denomination and the estate's 2023 doesn't disappoint. It opens with heady scents of violet, lavender, red berry and spice that on the savory palate transform into ripe juicy cherry, white pepper, star anise and orange zest. Bright acidity gives it racy tension while polished tannins offer seamless support. Drink through 2028" —Kerin O'Keefe

More about Baricci

Nello Baricci was the first producer to get badge #1 when the Brunello Consorzio formed in 1967—a master of Sangiovese before most people even knew the word. His grandsons Federico and Francesco continue making wine from the only vineyard wholly planted in the Montosoli 'Grand Cru'—five hectares of cooler-climate Sangiovese that age in Slavonian oak with understated elegance. It's a lesson in terroir humility.
