Cabernet Franc grown on a working protea flower farm, farmed organically and without tilling for over a decade. Ginny Povall planted these Devon Valley blocks in 2009 and 2010 after leaving a corporate career in Massachusetts, converted to organics in 2014, and now runs the property regeneratively, building topsoil with wood chip, mulch, native herbs and cover crops rather than turning it over; eight varieties of protea still grow alongside the vines. The Cabernet Franc ferments spontaneously in open-top tanks and spends eleven months in French barrels. It comes out savory and spice-driven rather than sweet, a medium-bodied red with the leafy, peppery edge that makes the grape worth seeking out. A slight chill suits it on a warm day.

Ginny Povall left America for South Africa's Stellenbosch in 2008, bought Protea Heights farm, and started planting both indigenous flowers and organically-farmed vines. The 21.6-hectare farm grows 10 hectares of indigenous flowers blooming year-round and 5 hectares of high-density biodynamic vineyards. Through regenerative agriculture, they increase soil fertility, build biodiversity, and craft Cabernet-based blends with purpose. It's wine with integrity.
