Bründlmayer’s Pinot Noir 2019 comes from high-elevation vineyards in Austria’s Kamptal, where limestone and loess soils provide ideal conditions for growing balanced, aromatic Pinot in a cooler climate. Hand-harvested and fermented with native yeasts, it’s aged in mostly used oak barrels, focusing on purity and texture rather than weight or flash.

The wine shows red cherry, raspberry, rose petal, and gentle spice, backed by fine-grained tannins and refreshing acidity. There’s a mineral edge and a savory undercurrent, giving it the kind of layered complexity that unfolds over time, whether in the glass or the cellar.

A perfect match for duck, mushroom dishes, or soft cheeses, this is a thoughtful, transparent Pinot that showcases the grape’s lighter, more elegant side.

"The 2019 Pinot Noir is from Ried Dechant, on loess underneath the Käferberg and Käferberg itself, planted to an estate massal selection planted in the 1990s. This was fermented with 30% whole-bunches and aged for 18 months in 300-liter barrels of French and Austrian oak (20% new). Supple red fruit is laid smoothly against chalkiness and soft oak. The palate red-fruited but comes with density and silky, almost juicy tannin. The key element of the wine, however, is bright freshness that outlines depth, contour and finesse. This displays a great combination of inner density and essential Pinot-lightness—beautiful and elegant." —Anne Krebiehl MW

"The 2019 Pinot Noir is from the crus Käferberg and Dechant and was fermented with 35% whole clusters for almost three weeks. The dark but transparent ruby-colored wine offers a coolish, fine and elegant, very clear and precise bouquet with ripe and dark red-berry aromas. Silky, fresh and fleshy on the palate, this is a well concentrated but finessed and elegant, sustainable, saline and firmly structured Pinot Noir with fine tannins and impressive structural length. Excellent but still very young. To be released in September next year. 12.5% stated alcohol. Natural cork." —Stephan Reinhardt

Tasting Profile

Among the greatest estates in Austria and arguably among the very greatest white-wine producers in the entire world. Quality has gradually increased even further, under the watchful eye of Andreas Wickhoff, MW, who took the helm from Willi Bründlmayer in 2014.

The entry level wines are the purest examples of straight-up Kamptal Riesling and Grüner you could hope for. But the fancier bottlings are truly next level transmitting the multi-faced soil, aspect, elevation and micro climates throughout the Kamptal. The estate is always pushing the boundaries of what one could expect from their vines and with great effect.
