Bruno Clavelier is a Vosne-Romanee purist who has farmed organically and biodynamically since the 1990s, well before it was fashionable, working old massal-selection vines with native-yeast ferments and bottling unfined and unfiltered. This is his Gevrey-Chambertin Les Corbeaux, a Premier Cru sitting in the cool air flows of the Lavaux combe that lend the wine balance and finesse rather than brute power. The 2012 was a small, concentrated, classically structured Burgundy vintage, and at this age it's entering a mature, expressive window. A serious 1er Cru Gevrey drinking well now. Decant.

"An intensely earthy and overtly sauvage nose that is very Gevrey in basic character displays notes of somber and cool wild red and dark currant aromas. There is outstanding intensity to the firm and muscular middle weight flavors that exude a very fine minerality on the long, mouth coating and beautifully persistent finish. A Gevrey 1er of power and harmony that is quite compact at the moment and will need at least 5 to 7 years of cellar time to further flesh out."

At once silky and juicy, with black cherry and licorice flavors accented by saline minerality and a distinct peppery quality.
