Bruno Giacosa's flagship single-vineyard Barolo from his own Falletto estate in Serralunga d'Alba, purchased in 1982 and the foundation of every great Giacosa Barolo since. This 1995 in magnum is a white-label release, meaning it is Giacosa's standard Falletto bottling (the red label is reserved for the very best vintages and ages to Riserva). 1995 was a classical structured vintage, and at 30 years on the wine is in a generous mature window, with the magnum format adding another layer of slow, regal evolution. Bruno Giacosa is the benchmark of classical Piedmont; daughter Bruna leads today. A late-Bruno-era magnum from his home vineyard.

Antonio Galloni

92 points

"Highly nuanced, expressive aromas of roasted plum, cherry, maple syrup, dried rose, game, smoke, truffle, tar and earth. Superripe but brooding and backward; a distinctly masculine style of Barolo. Finishes with impressive tannic clout and a bit less length than the '96." —Stephen Tanzer

Robert Parker

90 points

"I enjoyed the outstanding 1995 Barolo Falletto. It possesses a medium dark ruby color with some lightening at the edge. The intense nose of cedar, spice box, soy, tar, rose petals, and black fruits is followed by a wine with a sweet attack, full body, and dense, layered, concentrated, spicy flavors. As this muscular, tannic wine sat in the glass, all spice and dried herbs became increasingly apparent. Cellar it for 4-5 years, and consume over the following 12 years." —Robert M. Parker, Jr.

More about Bruno Giacosa

Bruno Giacosa passed away in 2018, but his legacy defines classical Barolo and Barbaresco. He was convinced that Nebbiolo doesn't need French barriques or modern tweaks—only time in large oak and genuine understanding of terroir. His golden palate earned him recognition as an 'icon of Piedmont' and a 'guardian of the traditional style,' and his wines are objects of desire for good reason. These are classical expressions of Nebbiolo made by someone who understood the grape's infinite complexity.

Tasting Notes & Food Pairings

Perfect Pairings

Vitello tonnato, brasato al Barolo, risotto with white truffle, roast pheasant with chestnuts, or aged Castelmagno. A flagship Serralunga magnum deserves a flagship Sunday lunch.

Tasting Profile

Mature Falletto Serralunga: tar, dried rose, sour cherry, dried orange peel, tobacco leaf, white truffle and underbrush. Tannins resolved, structure intact, finish long and savory with the magnum's slow grace.
