Alberto Burzi represents a new generation of Barolo winemakers. After oenology studies in Alba, he joined the 7-hectare family operation in La Morra in 2012, reconnecting with family roots while modernizing the estate's image. Capalot is one of La Morra's most important crus, situated at 300-350 meters on Sant'Agata marl interspersed with sandstone containing marine fossils. La Morra's soils have the highest sand and lowest limestone content among Barolo villages, producing wines with bright fruit and less aggressive tannins. The Vecchie Viti (old vines) range from 25 to 80 years old, hand-harvested at just 7-8 buds per vine to concentrate flavors. Fermentation uses submerged cap with extended maceration, followed by 24 months in large Austrian oak casks and 24 months in bottle. The 2019 vintage is considered classic Barolo: ideal balance, contemporary precision, firm structured tannins. A wine for long-term aging.
