The entry point to one of Barbaresco's most historic estates. Cantina del Pino's village-level Barbaresco blends fruit from their various holdings, including young-vine parcels in Ovello and Albesani. The Vacca family applies the same traditional methods here as in their cru wines: native yeast fermentation, extended maceration, two years in large Slavonian oak, no fining or filtration. This is an accessible introduction to the estate's style—more approachable than the single-vineyard bottlings, but still serious Nebbiolo that will reward a few years of patience or a good decant.Coastal Ligurian Vermentino. Mineral, saline, herb-driven. Perfect with seafood. Drink fresh, not too cold.

Antonio Galloni

92 points

"The 2021 Barbaresco is a very pretty entry-level offering from Cantina del Pino. Floral, gracious and inviting, the 2021 is all charm. Crushed flowers, blood orange, mint and white pepper complement a core of red Nebbiolo fruit in this stylish, vibrant Barbaresco. Brisk acids and beams of supporting tannin pull it all together on the beautifully perfumed finish. This is an understated wine for the year, but that works so well here. Vineyard sources are Ovello and Loreto." —Antonio Galloni

Robert Parker

"The Cantina del Pino 2021 Barbaresco (with 12,000 bottles made) is perfumed and nuanced with pretty fruit tones of cassis and dried cherry and an equally important floral side with rose potpourri and iris root. The wine starts fermentation in both stainless steel and oak vats, and it matures in large oak casks for 24 months before going into bottle. It glides over the palate with polished tannins and a lean to mid-weight mouthfeel. I'd give this vintage a little more bottle age to allow it to flesh out further." —Monica Larner

Kerin O'Keefe

"Rose, crushed mint, hay and camphor aromas form the enticing nose. Linear and elegantly structured, the palate shows the rather austere nature of the vintage, featuring juicy red cherry blood orange and star anise alongside taut, fine-grained tannins. Give this time to fully develop." —Kerin O'Keefe
