Charles Joguet—artist, revolutionary, father of modern Chinon—pioneered terroir-specific bottlings in this appellation. Clos du Chêne Vert is one of Chinon's mythical parcels: a monopole on southwest-facing clay-limestone slopes within the city itself, producing elegant, tannic, age-worthy Cabernet Franc. The 2019 offers blackberry, currant, graphite, and chalk with well-built structure and mouthwatering acidity. Under new direction with Anne-Charlotte Genet and winemaker Kevin Fontaine, this historic domaine continues to define what Chinon can be. Cellar 5-15+ years.

"The 2019 Chinon Clos du Chene Vert, Monopole has a nose that you sniff and just want to get deeper into the wine, as if you're at the top of a 10-meter diving board (ha! like I've ever been at the top of a 10-meter diving board. No, thank you!) and you're being dragged into the depths of the pool below. It's dark and mysterious and intense at this early stage, but not quite ready to reveal itself. Work at it and there are the vanillins of oak barrel aging alongside dark, spiced black cherries. There's a reassuring sense of weight and balance, and a satisfying textural coating of fine, cocoa-like tannins, while the acidity gives the impression that this is a wine that knows what it is and where it's going. And it's going long and it's going far." —Rebecca Gibb MW

More about Charles Joguet

Joguet is another jewel in the Kermit Lynch portfolio, the domaine is situated just between the Loire and Vienne Rivers in the AOC of Chinon. Vinified separately, according to parcel since the 1950's, the estate is now run by winemaker Kevin Fontaine and wines are divided into 2 categories: those meant for early consumption, and those meant to age.

Loire Valley Wines

The Loire Valley is France’s greatest source of value for anyone looking for elegant, terroir-driven wines. Our collection celebrates the region’s great diversity, with the mineral-driven whites of Muscadet and Sancerre, the beautiful Chenin Blancs and Cabernet Francs from villages like Vouvray and Chinon, and natural wines from everywhere in the region. Sometimes wonderfully fresh and gulpable, sometimes serious and age-worthy, the prices are always very reasonable.
