This vineyard's viticultural history stretches back over 2,000 years to Roman cultivation. Medieval monks of St. Martin Abbey tended the land before General Jacques de Carles named it "Beau-Séjour" (lovely stay) in 1787. The Becot family, present in Saint-Émilion since 1760, acquired it in 1969. In 2014, Juliette Becot and Julien Barthe assumed control and began implementing innovative approaches while honoring tradition. The estate sits on the Saint-Martin de Mazerat limestone plateau immediately west of Saint-Émilion town. Recent innovations include whole-berry fermentation, clay amphora aging for 25% of production, and a lighter touch with new oak. The 2014 was picked between October 8-20 at yields of 35 hl/ha—among the estate's finest vintages. Expect macerated red cherries, wild strawberry, vanilla pod, and orange sorbet with superb delineation. A bridge between Bordeaux tradition and modern technique.

Antonio Galloni

89 points

"The 2014 Beau-Séjour Bécot has a commendable bouquet with brambly red fruit, damp loam, tobacco and pressed rose petal scents. It takes a bit of coaxing, but it reveals fine delineation. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth tannins and fleshy, fine delineation. It lacks complexity and personality, so the finish feels monotone and doesn't tempt you back for more. This tasted much better in 2018, so I speculate there is some deterioration in the intervening period? Tasted blind at the Southwold 10-Year-On tasting." —Neal Martin

Robert Parker

93 points

"The 2014 Beau-Sejour Becot was tasted on two or three occasions. It has a generous and sensual bouquet with ample macerated red cherries, wild strawberry, vanilla pod and orange sorbet aromas. This is endowed with superb delineation and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with filigree tannin, beautifully integrated new oak, real depth and focus. You could argue that it needed to demonstrate more persistence on the finish but that would be clutching at straws. There is so much freshness and vivacity in this Saint Emilion that it really is a must-buy." —Neal Martin

Wine Spectator

93 points

"This delivers a vibrant core of raspberry and boysenberry preserves, freshened with hints of mint, savory and tobacco, all carried by fine threads of charcoal through the finish. Reveals a lovely tug of sweet earth at the end. Best from 2022 through 2032."

Wine Enthusiast

95 points

"While this powerful wine does have considerable over-extraction, it also has swathes of ripe berry fruits. There is enough fruity richness that it should eventually dominate the tough structure and harmonize; it just needs time."
